Schools in the private school system are based on a tradition of high quality education combined with a comprehensive athletic and social programme aimed at developing the student as a whole person. Funding for these schools comes from donations, alumni support and student tuition. These schools receive no funding from the governments. They follow the academic curriculum as set out by each government, but set their own standards of excellence.

Classes and teacher to student ratios are kept to a minimum to ensure individual attention. It is important to note that the level of English required for admission varies with each individual school. Students applying to private schools must be willing to participate fully in all academic, athletic, and social aspects, as all facets are viewed equally when assessing the student. Private schools require the student to wear a uniform, exhibit an excellent work ethic and become an active member of the school community.
PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IN CANADA
The public school system has been developed with the belief that all students are entitled to a full and comprehensive education. This system is funded by Canadian Federal and Provincial governments with support from parents and student tuition from international students. All curriculum and standards are developed by the provincial Ministries of Education. Each school must comply with the provincial standards to ensure that all students receive the same quality of education, regardless of the city or town in which they live. High Schools in the public system teach at both the “academic” (advanced) and “applied” (general) levels, offering challenges to all students. Those who wish to continue to university take their classes at the academic level, while those who intend to continue to college or pursue a trade may take their classes at either level.
CANADIAN PUBLIC CATHOLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM
The Catholic school system is similar in nature to the public system, with the exception that Roman Catholic religious study is a mandatory component of daily school life. Students in a Catholic school must take at minimum one religious studies class each year. Special masses or services are held on holidays in the school chapel or local church. Students attending a Catholic school must wear a school uniform.
